There are two immensely interesting cars simply street parked and never driven in my neighborhood. One is a turbo FD RX-7. Yes, it's a stick. It sits in 100-degree heat during summer, the snow and salt come winter, and sits in a parking space 24/7. It moves occasionally, but it's neglected enough to make it worth my while to slip a note under a wiper. As sad as it makes me feel to say it, I'd trade the C4 (and my remaining savings) for that car if price relative to condition is exceptional. Meaning 8-10k. Cosmetically, it's nice. I don't think the owner has given a shit during the past few years, though, so it would be prime buying time. The other's a '66 Falcon Futura, surface rust but driving with a slush box and presumably a tough but wheezy I6. Here's some Murica (and a little bit of sweden, but murican owned bit of Sweden nonetheless.).

Don't ditch the 'Vette. My two cents.

The '66 Falcon is not the coolest. Also Futura auto with no Sprint package? Booooo.

I guess if it would make me sad to trade it for a particular car, it's not worth it. There's so much I haven't done with it that I planned to, and it feels so familiar being my first car and everything... But rotary lightweight goodness...

Somewhat reliable GM dd, for a rotary Mazda. Nope. As much as I love rotaries, I wouldn't have one as my only car.

You have to understand that there are no well worn classic cars around here. It's pretty unusual, shitbox of bygone days it may be.

You'll pray for simplicity and engine access the first time you do any serious work on that Mazda. And imo the Corvette is plain cooler

Well, in some respects the shitboxier version of that car is more interesting overall - stick, and clean trim. The Futura side trim is pretty good looking for that year, though, and it *does* have buckets. The first and second gen could have a Futura with four doors, but it actually kind of looks like the third gen was only a Futura if it was a "sport coupe", which might actually mean V8 only. Hmm...

You're definitely right there. But a V8 would certainly make things a bit more interesting!

Very good point, although riding a bike in place of commute would work. I'm willing to make substantial sacrifices until I finally learn my lesson or join a British car club haha

Also, you need to remember that you have to maintain the shit out of a rotary.

That's true. A rotary is a potential PITA, and the Corvette is both the last classic car in its line and the first modern one which certainly makes it interesting to me. At first the goal was to persuade my dad to get in touch with the RX-7 owner because he was looking for something fun and cheap, but scrapped the plan when I saw a slushbox Miata in the garage hah

Step 1: Steal Mazda

Step 2: Sell Corvette to fund an LS swap

Step 3: ????

Step 4: Hoon

True, but they can go surprisingly far if you let them warm up, cool down, and stretch their legs in addition to maintaining them well.

I'd have to sell the corvette to fund the RX7 purchase, but I'm not big into most LS swaps. The rotary is one of my favorite things about RX7s! Besides, if I wanted to drive a small, V8 RWD car I only have to grab my keys :p

Oh I know that. Roflcopter's RX8 has over 100k miles on the original engine. It's just very maintained, and he has a second car.

I love it too, but it's certainly not as reliable as something like an LS. Personally, I would buy it and keep it stock. I think the increased maintenance would be worth it.

And I said steal the Mazda. If you steal it you could keep the Vette, too. Win-win.

Yeah, I think I can manage with my bike and public transportation if the car was down. I'm in the city anyways. It's just that when it comes down to it, the C4 and RX7 do very similar things and one costs me less and has sentimental value to me. Plus, old school V8 and odd 4 speed manual are interesting enough for me.

How did I miss the steal part? This is perfect. Aside from the fact that the RX-7 would reside under 1000 feet from its owner. But I'll give it a try ;)

Hey man, keep parking it in the same spot. That way the previous owner won't even notice.

Can we just make a series comparing the size of an 80s Corvette to other cars? Also, Vette>RX-7 (opinion, obviously. And I'm incredibly biased.)

We should! They are really small and look funny next to, say, anything roomy. Somehow they manage to be extremely space efficient. And I just had a temporary bout of insanity, because after raining today there was far more accidental wheelspin than there would be purposeful wheelspin in the RX7.
